Find inventory items more quickly by setting custom keyboard shortcuts that filter the Sales Order Inventory Entry views by product classification.

Using this guide, you will first define a product classification (this is an umbrella category for similar inventory categories). Then you will assign the categories it encompasses to it. Lastly, you will create a custom keyboard shortcut and assign it to the product classification.

If the product classification you are setting a new shortcut for has already been defined, skip to Step 2. If the classification has already been assigned categories, skip to Step 3

Step 1: Defining Product Classifications

1. Click on the Inventory menu.

2. Mouse over the Product Filter Maintenance sub-menu in the Inventory menu.

3. Click on the Product Classification option in the Product Filter Maintenance sub-menu. This will bring up the pop-up window pictured below.

4. Click on the last row in the Product Classification window to add a new classification. Its default Status will be "A" for Active. You can deactivate this later if you'd like by selecting "I" for Inactive instead.

5. Double-click the Classification Description box to edit the new classification's description. Enter the item classification name in the box.

6. Hit Enter to finish editing the new name. Click the Save button in the top-right corner to save the name. A pop-up will confirm that the classification data has been saved.

Step 2: Assigning Item Categories to Your New Product Classification

1. Click on the Management menu in the main toolbar.

2. Click on the Assign Item Classifications to Inventory option in the Management menu.

3. Select a category to assign from the Category Filter drop-down and then click Find.

4. Select multiple inventory items by holding down the Ctrl button while clicking rows.

5. Select a category from the Classifications to Assign to the Selected Inventory drop-down and then click Apply.

Step 3: Setting a Keyboard Shortcut for A Product Classification

1. Click on the Management menu in the main toolbar.

2. Click on the User Defined Searches option in the Management menu.

3.  Hit Ctrl, Alt, or Shift, then the keyboard combination you'd like to make a shortcut. It will appear in the boxes labeled Hot Key Combination, although you cannot click in the boxes. Then click the Save button.

That's it!
